Memorial Day will be different for me this year. I happened to be in Washington, D.C. on Friday, and saw a new memorial along the reflecting pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

Remembering Our Fallen was inspired by a 2010 newspaper story about a father whose grief was even greater four years after his son had died in Iraq because he felt his son had been forgotten, and the war was not even over.

The happy faces of the fallen — most of them in their teens and twenties — shine with youth and promise in this powerful memorial. One cannot help but reflect upon the grief of thousands of families who have suffered and continue to suffer. I will be thinking of them this Memorial Day.

Facebook shrinks your photos, but it does one thing extremely well: Facebook makes it easy to get feedback from your friends. You can Like and Reply to comments, and it’s fun to get feedback on photos. It feels like appreciation.

That’s why dotphoto has added Facebook’s comment capability to your dotphoto albums. You can comment only to your dotphoto guests, or you can share directly to your Facebook account and collect comments in both places. Just scroll to the bottom of any dotphoto to add a comment or post directly to Facebook.

One upload for all your photo needs
One dotphoto upload now gives you archival back-up, printing, comments, and social media. dotphoto archives your full-sized photos up to 30MB each, and you can also share those photos directly to Facebook. Just make a comment on your album and tap the checkbox to Also post on Facebook. Now your photos are shared in both dotphoto and Facebook, and you’ll get comments from Facebook friends.

What you’ll see on Facebook
Your first comment becomes your post, and your friends can comment as they usually do. The first photo in the album is displayed on Facebook, and friends can click on that photo to see your whole album.

To share a single photo

1. 1. In dotphoto, create a new album with the Organize / Create Album command.
   2. Copy the photo to the album you just created with the Organize / Copy command.
   3. Comment in the album that contains one photo.

Your camera phone now has such high resolution that it makes a handy magnifying glass. Two years ago, my wife and I were in Notre Dame Cathedral on Good Friday. We were exploring the somber chapels deep in the cathedral when a commotion stirred nearby, and a line of young men in robes emerged from a dark hallway. We joined a small crowd that followed the celebrants to the front doors of the cathedral and out onto the bright plaza where they established the stations of the cross. We will remember that colorful spring afternoon all our lives.

How wonderful that Notre Dame was largely saved and will be re-built! Here is a dotphoto slideshow that recalls Notre Dame that day.

Where are my Android photos?
My apologies to the nice dotphoto customer who called to ask about uploading Android photos. I suggested that she watch our video about uploading, which is usually very helpful; it only occurred to me later that she could not find her photos in her phone.

Android devices can keep photos in many different places, so we’ve created this illustrated FAQ to help find Android photos. A few simple tricks are very useful.

Where are my Android photos?

Your guests will see your logo when they login
Professional photographers, newspapers and others who sell photos on dotphoto can now add their logo to dotphoto. Your logo will appear to guests when they sign in as a guest or use a link to reach your dotphoto album.

To set up your logo, email your logo as an attachment to prologos@dotphoto.com  Logos should be oblong and horizontal, and up to 1031 x 286 pixels.

Red eyes appear in photos when the camera flash or another bright light source is reflected from the retina. The reflected light illuminates the rich blood supply of the connective tissue at the back of the eye and produces the red color you see in pictures.

To remove red-eye on dotphoto, go to the dotphoto editor by choosing a photo and then tapping the pencil icon. Then choose the red-eye feature, select the eyes and apply.

Organize the photos in your albums by date, upload date, alphabetical by title, or drop-and-drag to a custom arrangement. Just tap the Organize command on the left and choose Sort Album. To drag photos to a new order, choose Manual Drag and Drop Rearrange after Sort Albums.

dotphoto handles documents, too. Here’s how to manage documents on dotphoto, too:

• Create a Documents album in your dotphoto account under Organize.
• Add a guest password, so that album is locked and will not appear to your photo-browsing guests.
• When you get a document that you want to keep, take a photo of it with your phone.
• Run dotphoto.com on your phone, and upload the document to your Documents album.

• Shipping paperwork

Now you can access documents whenever you want, and even download full-sized copies of your documents.  To name your documents, enter the album, and use dotphoto’s Organize / Edit Titles function.
